Frequently Asked Questions
What is Fandom Muses?
It is a challenge based writing community where people write responses and short ficlets from the point of view of a fictional character.

Like Theatrical Muse?
Yes! Very much like Theatrical Muse. We credit them with an awesome idea that we are trying to expand on at Fandom Muses. We are not affiliated with [info]theatrical_muse in any way.

Fictional characters? Like from movies and books?
Exactly! Fictional characters can be from movies, books, television shows, comic books, etc...

Monthly challenges? What's that all about?
Every month a new topic post with various songs, questions, one-word prompts, and quotes will be posted. Fandom Muses requires that each muse respond to at least one challange per month. The challenges will range from serious to obscure to hilarious allowing you freedom to provide further insight into your character of choice.

Is this a first come first serve community?
In terms of applying for specific muses, it is not a first come first serve community. The moderators take the application process very seriously. The application process runs from Sunday to Saturday (midnight PST, 3 am EST) every week. If there are two people who request the same muse within that time span the moderators will review both applications and decide which is the stronger of the two. Fandom Muses is an enjoyable community and we want to keep it fun for all of our members, and that includes screening new members very carefully.

If my application is rejected can I re-apply?
Of course! We encourage you to review your application and make the necessary changes and reapply if your muse is still available. There is no limit on how many times you can reapply.

How can I tell if my muse is taken or not?
I suggest checking the cast list here..

How many muses can I play here?
As many as you want! We don't limit you on how many muses you can have here, but just be sure that you are able to keep up with all of them.

Can I have more than one muse in one fandom?
Yes. To start out with, you may write two muses from one fandom at once. Say you want to play Sawyer, Sayid and Jack from Lost. You cannot apply for them all at the same time. You may apply for say Sawyer and Jack first and once accepted you may begin writing challenges for them. Two months after your first challenge entries you may apply for Sayid if Sawyer and Jack have been active for those two months. Three is the maximum amount of canon muses from one fandom allowed at one time and will be on a case by case basis.

Are fandoms like Angel and Buffy the Vampire Slayer considered one fandom?
Yes.

When are challenges posted?
On the first of every new month, if not a couple of days before that.

Somebody is already playing Peter Parker, but it's the movie version. Can I play Peter Parker from the comic books?
Nope. One muse per fandom. That's it.

Can I apply for an original character?
Yes. In addition to the two topic responses in your application you must also provide us with an in-depth background for your character and a fandom in which they fit into. No Mary Sues please.

How many original characters can I play?
As many as you want! But you can only play two that are associated with a particular fandom. If you want to bring more than two in you'll have to fit them into a different fandom.

What about roleplaying?
We can only regulate roleplaying to a certain extent. Please use common sense in this matter. If a thread delves into the NC-17 territory please label it as such. We also request that within your journals you only play with [info]fandom_muses official muses. What you do outside of your journal is your own business.

Do I have to create a seperate journal for my muse?
Yes.

Do I have to write in third person/first person?
You can write in third person or first person or get creative and write in second person. That is entirely up to you.

How long do I have to make my challenge response?
We require that they must be no shorter than 150 words, however we do encourage you to write more.

Okay! I wrote my challenge response, now what do I do with it?
After you've posted it in your character journal please archive it in your memories as being a Fandom Muses topic response. In addition please provide a link in the current monthly topic post.

I was removed from Fandom Muses for inactivity but now I have more time and want to play again. What do I do?
You must wait one month after being removed and then you may re-apply.

I'm being harassed by another member. Help!
Email the moderators at fm.mods@gmail.com. We will do everything in our power to fairly resolve the situation.

I have finals and I can't concentrate long enough on Bio-Medical Engineering let alone long enough to write a challenge response but I want to keep my muse! What do I do?
Email the moderators and let us know what your situation is. We understand that real life comes first and that things crop up that get in the way of spending time online. If you need to put your character on hiatus just let us know.

I need to make an out of character to post for everyone in Fandom Muses to read. Where do I go to do that?
[info]fandommuses_ooc

Who runs this place anyway?
Ashy- [info]nycityboy
Hannah- [info]tasergirl
Jenna- [info]rogue_slayer

Alright. I've heard enough. How do I apply?
You must write out two in character challenge responses. We require that at least one of them be in third person point of view, however the other can be in first person if you prefer. For more information on applying, check here.
Topic #1. An introduction to your character
Topic #2. One of the latest challenge topics in the current montly post

Do you need any other information with my application?
Yes! The following information must be included.
Personal journal name, the journal name for the muse you are requesting, and the muse name and fandom of the muse you are applying. In the subject line we require that you put 'Be Cool Sodapop' just to be sure that you have read the rules. If you neglect the subject line your email will be deleted and never looked at.

Why do you need my personal journal name? I don't like giving that information out.
This is needed so we can ensure that each writer only has the alloted number of muses from each fandom. We will keep your personal journal name confidential.

Where do I send my application and other inquiries?
justpromptmods@gmail.com
